Dubai, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES: Members of the royal family including Dubai Emir Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum (R) and Sheikh Saeed bin Maktoum al-Maktoum (2R) elder son of late Sheikh Maktoum, carry the body of Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashed al-Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai and vice-president of the United Arab Emirates, during his funeral in Dubai 05 January 2006, one day after the renowned racehorse owner died of a heart attack in Australia at the age of 62. Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, the architect of the city state's development boom, succeeded his older brother as ruler of the emirate, one of the seven that form the UAE federation.
Solat Janazah was performed by the people in Masjid Zabeel. Among the royal dignitaries who were there: President of United Arab Emirates Sheikh Khalifa Ibn Zayed Sultan Al Nahayan, King Abdullah of Jordan, Prince Ali of Jordan, Prince Moulay Rachid, Duke of Gloucester (representing Queen Elizabeth II), Crown Prince of Qatar and Sheikh Nawwaf al Ahmad Al Sabah (representing Emir of Kuwait) and many other members of the neighbouring royal families.
